Bettina von Kameke MA
- LSP Trainer - Professional Photographer
Bettina graduated
at Central St Martin School of Art & Design and began a remarkable and fascinating journey in Documentary Photography
in 2001. Her work investigates enclosed communities, their life, rituals and their identities. From sailing with 31
Burmese merchants from England to South Africa, to an Enclosed Order of Benedictine Nuns Convent, to travelling with
the famous Circus Humberto through the Czech Republic. In 2008 Bettina was invited to an artist’s residency at
Christ Church College in Oxford to produce 101
Portraits representative of the Christ Church Community. Her latest and truly outstanding work explores a community
of male prisoners at HMP Wormwood Scrubs. "In
my work I question and explore the interior and exterior conditions, means and forces, which make a communal life sustainable.
An enclosed community is generally based on shared religious, commercial or traditional values.
The camera either still or moving creates a distance but at the same time allow me to enter the subjects’ intimacy/ privacy. The camera functions as an interface between myself and the world outside and becomes my second skin". www.vonkameke.com
